Jazz Festival in Oberhaching – District of Munich

For friends of classical jazz and sharp-tongued literature, a community in the south of Munich could become a place of longing at the weekend. At the 15th Oberhaching Jazz Festival, well-known artists spend two evenings extensively dedicating themselves to the Great American Songbook, the music of George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, as well as the brilliant short stories of Dorothy Parker. Festival director and jazz pianist Bernd Lhotzky will present his new band on Friday, May 20th Because of Swing, in which the charismatic singer Nina Plotzky plays a prominent role. There are also saxophonist Claus Koch, trumpeter Colin Dawson, drummer Oliver Mewes and bassist Henning Gailing, all internationally established protagonists of the scene. On Saturday, May 21, the Austrian actress Birgit Minichmayr, known from films such as “All Others”, “The Bone Man” or “Schachnovelle”, will read short stories by Dorothy Parker, who was the focus of New York’s bohemian scene in the 1920s and described the city’s high society with satirical lust. Lothzky, who grew up in Oberhaching, will arrange the music for this evening together with his pianist colleague Louis Mazetier. Both events in the Bürgersaal at the Forstner start at 8 p.m., there are not many tickets left (tickets via www.oberhaching.deor in the library and town hall).
