The surprise was big on Monday morning, California time. Actually it was “day of rest”. Every last Monday of the month, all Twitter employees are given time off to relax. But then: “Hello Team” began the email with which company founder and CEO Jack Dorsey announced his resignation. A few minutes later, the rest of the world also saw the suicide note, embedded in a tweet with the laconic announcement: “I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but I quit on Twitter.” Of course everyone had. It was afternoon in Europe, noon in New York, late evening in Asia. “Humblebragging” is what you call it on Twitter, when you casually brag about alleged banalities. One of the standards is to make fun of little mishaps that happen to you at awards shows, insider parties or trips to world cities. One of the many new forms of communication that have emerged in this microblogging system since Dorsey launched the application in July 2006. And the fact that the boss of a company with a worldwide reputation resigns with such publicity is one of the really big gestures. The PS then said: “I tweet this email. My only wish is that Twitter Inc. becomes the most transparent company in the world. Hi Mom!”
