Ivan Repušić becomes general music director of the Leipzig Opera. – Munich

Ivan Repušić, currently chief conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra, will become general music director of the Leipzig Opera from the 2025/26 season. His contract with the Munich-based company runs since the 2017/18 season and runs until the summer of 2026. Repušić is currently first permanent guest conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and designated chief conductor of the Staatskapelle Weimar. The Croatian, born in 1978, became general music director at the Hanover State Opera for the 2016/2017 season. Even before he takes up his position in Leipzig, you can see him at the podium there: on November 29, 2023, Repušić will conduct the “Magic Flute” and the revival of “Otello” next season. He also distinguished himself as a conductor of concert opera performances with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Several CD productions document this, including recordings of Verdi’s “Luisa Miller” and “I due Foscari”.
