“It’s not the rhinestones and glitter”, Jonathan, intermittent, opens his accounts to us

“When you don’t work, you find yourself unemployed, and there, the drop in income is incredible. » While millions of French people have faced persistent inflation throughout 2023, 20 minutes give the floor to Jonathan. This assistant director agreed to open his accounts for the month of November to us.

In terms of income, it’s a difficult month, “I had no filming, therefore no salary” notes the thirty-year-old. He thus receives state aid of 1,200 euros, less than the SMIC, the minimum income in France which today is 1,383.09 euros net per month. If Jonathan gets by financially in November it is thanks to additional income. In his small apartment of around 36m², he rents his sofa on the Airbnb site. Otherwise, he would have been in the red.

Getting out of the middle class?

“I love my job and fortunately there is still security with this intermittent status” admits Jonathan “but we are far from the rhinestones and glitter, we do not have continuous work and there is a lot of unpaid debts in this environment.” The young man confesses to having to regularly dip into his savings and has to call on lawyers to claim what he owes.

Jonathan is currently training to set up his own production company and hopes to soon produce films, short films and series. He aspires to better income and why not to move away “from this middle class which is currently suffering”.

The entire list of Jonathan’s income and expenses as well as his testimony can be found in the video at the top of this article.
