“It’s a provocation, it’s scandalous”, reacts the Insoumis Manuel Bompard

While the kitty in support of the family of the policeman who killed Nahel, in Nanterre last Tuesday, exceeded one million euros, the deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône said on Tuesday “scandalized by the fact that when asked about this subject, the government ministers consider that it is not the problem and that it is not the subject”.

“It’s a provocation, it’s scandalous”reacts Tuesday July 4 on franceinfo Manuel Bompard, after the kitty launched in support of the family of the policeman who killed Nahel exceeded one million euros. “Of course” that it must be closed, believes the coordinator of La France insoumise (LFI), because it conveys “signals”of the “symbols” and “posts” that he “finds it totally unacceptable”.

The MP for Bouches-du-Rhône is “outraged by the fact that when questioned on this subject, government ministers consider that it is not the problem and that it is not the subject”. “It is not the subject of the government, the government does not look at these kitty subjects”declared the Minister Delegate for Housing, Olivier Klein, on the morning of Monday July 3 on franceinfo. “The fact that it is indeed a person close to the extreme right who launched this kitty does not undoubtedly contribute to bringing appeasement”, estimated for her part the Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, on the evening of Monday, July 3. She added that it would be up to the courts to decide “if applicable” on the legality of this kitty.

Too timid reactions, for Manuel Bompard, who points to a double standard. He cites the case of ex-boxer Christophe Dettinger, filmed hitting two gendarmes in the middle of the movement of “yellow vests”, in January 2019. There too, a support kitty had been launched, then taken offline by the platform that hosted it. This close friend of Jean-Luc Mélenchon underlines that at the time, the reactions were more lively on the side of the government. He recalls the words of Marlène Schiappa, then Secretary of State for Equality between Women and Men: “to give to a kitty of support for someone hitting a police officer is to be complicit in this serious violence”. “There is no problem there. You have to be a little consistent”tackles the chosen one.
