IT disruption paralyzes VW – production comes to a standstill

Due to a network disruption at Volkswagen, production is at a standstill at various locations. Offices are also affected. The extent and cause of the disruption are still unclear. The company has convened a crisis team.

A network disruption has paralyzed the Volkswagen Group’s central infrastructure. Production in several plants is at a standstill, a company spokesman confirmed. The “Handelsblatt” had previously reported on the disruption.

Since 12:30 p.m. there has been an “IT disruption of network components at the Wolfsburg location” with implications for the vehicle producing plants, according to the company spokesman.

Dimension of the disorder is not yet clear

According to the company, production at the main plant in Wolfsburg as well as in the plants in Emden, Osnabrück and Zwickau is currently at a standstill.

It is also currently not possible to work in the offices in Wolfsburg. The emergency call was canceled at other locations. The extent of the disruption is not yet entirely clear. The cause of the network disruption is not yet known. However, an attack from outside is currently considered unlikely.

The company has convened the crisis team. Volkswagen is working hard to fix the problem.
