Israel’s ambassador harshly attacks UN Secretary General Guterres. The Israeli military reports the successful defense against Hamas terrorists. The army spokesman urges vigilance.
UN Secretary General António Guterres condemned the attack on Israel by the terrorist Hamas in the UN Security Council – but also accused Israel of violating international law. This caused serious disagreements between Israel and the United Nations.
The relationship was already tense before the war. Also because of numerous UN resolutions that are critical of Israel. But now, during the war and after Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel, Israel’s ambassador, Gilad Erdan, is even calling for the resignation of the UN Secretary General in New York.
“I have been saying for almost two years that the UN Secretary-General supports terror. This is not an easy situation. Today we received the final confirmation that this man is not fit to be UN Secretary-General,” Erdan said, following Guterres’ Statements. And further: “After a terrible massacre and the murder of children and women, the Secretary General opens the meeting today by saying that it did not happen in a vacuum. God forbid, this man is not even capable of murder to condemn innocent children.”
New Hamas attacks
Meanwhile, Hamas’ attacks on Israel continue. There was another rocket alarm in the south of the country in the morning. The night before, the Israeli army thwarted another attempt by terrorists from the Gaza Strip to enter Israeli territory. There was an alarm in the northwest of the Gaza Strip.
Army spokesman Daniel Hagari appealed to the population to remain vigilant. “We are noticing a decrease in rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. But the civilian population must still remain vigilant,” he said. “From experience, the enemy is trying to tire us out, but there are still rockets from the Gaza Strip and we must remain vigilant. Our Defense is not hermetic.”
Israel continues to attack targets in the Gaza Strip from the air. The humanitarian situation there remains precarious. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whose autonomous authority controls parts of the West Bank, also pointed this out on Tuesday. So far he has not explicitly condemned Hamas’ terror, but has only spoken of civilian victims on both sides.
At a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday in Ramallah, Abbas emphasized the victims on the Palestinian side. “Our people are victims of barbaric aggression by the Israeli war machine. We demand a complete ceasefire, and permanent humanitarian corridors so that medical materials, food, water, electricity, fuel and other essentials come to the Gaza Strip,” Abbas said: “We emphasize “We reject the expulsion of Palestinians outside Palestine, whether from Gaza or the West Bank.”
Dispute over fuel
The United Nations and aid organizations confirm that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains extremely tense. 59 trucks carrying relief supplies have crossed the border with Egypt in the past few days, with water, food and medical supplies. What is still missing is fuel, which is needed, among other things, to operate hospitals and water pumps.
“There is no fuel coming into the Gaza Strip because Hamas uses it for its military infrastructure,” said Israeli army spokesman Hagari. “Fuel that Hamas stole from the United Nations should be taken away from Hamas and given to hospitals.”
It is unclear whether further hostages kidnapped into the Gaza Strip will be released soon. Hamas tied this, among other things, to the delivery of fuel for the Gaza Strip.
