Israeli forces apparently shot dead a 15-year-old Palestinian in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Thursday. According to the mayor of the city of Azzun in the north of the West Bank, an Israeli military vehicle drove into the city late Thursday evening and Palestinian youths threw stones at it. The soldiers then started shooting at the students.
The city hospital released a statement saying a 10th grader died after being shot in the back and two others were being treated for gunshot wounds. According to a statement by the Israeli military, the soldiers had been searching in the area for people who were throwing firecrackers at Israeli vehicles. They shot at suspects who were throwing explosives.
The Israeli military only confirmed that people had been wounded. Violence had recently escalated in the West Bank. After Israeli military operations, there were repeated rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, to which Israel responded with shelling. Eleven Palestinians were killed and more than 100 injured in another military raid in Nablus in the West Bank last week.
