Israel News: Israel speaks of the “most intense day” of the ground offensive

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock calls on Israel to comply with international law in view of the dramatic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. “Israel has the right to protect its population within the framework of international law. What is crucial, however, is how Israel proceeds in this new phase,” said the Green politician after a meeting with Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon in the capital Ljubljana. “Israel has a responsibility to comply with international humanitarian law, to alleviate civilian suffering and to protect the civilian population,” added Baerbock. “Too many Palestinians have already fallen victim to this conflict.”

We are working “jointly for another ceasefire,” says Baerbock. Above all, what is needed is the protection of people. At the same time, “Arab countries need to take action to ensure that the ongoing security threat to Israel from Hamas cannot continue.” That’s why it’s important that the political horizon of a two-state solution is shown again and again.
