US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is calling on Israel to carefully distinguish between civilians and Hamas militants in its military action in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army and the Israeli government have the task of “taking all measures at their disposal to distinguish between Hamas terrorists, who are legitimate military targets, and civilians who are not,” Sullivan told CNN .
President Joe Biden will call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later in the day to reiterate Washington’s position that civilians must be protected, Sullivan announced. According to unconfirmed information from the Hamas Ministry of Health there, more than 8,000 people have been killed in the Israeli attacks that have been ongoing for three weeks in the Gaza Strip.
