And again the flags are waving by the thousands, again the deafening noise comes from the plastic horns, again the masses of people are marching to the protest – as has been the case everywhere in Israel for weeks. “I came to save democracy,” says Fred Lamy, 45, who came up from Tel Aviv in a good mood to the demonstration in front of the Knesset in Jerusalem. “But actually,” he adds, “it’s bizarre that I have to take to the streets now. We right-wingers just won the election.”
