Ismaning – Feminist Mural – District of Munich

Sophie Scholl as a member of the Nazi resistance group “White Rose” should be familiar to most. But what about Margaret Hamilton or Navanethem Pillay? Despite their undisputed achievements for the general public, many women – the US computer scientist Hamilton was involved in bringing the first humans safely to and from the moon in the late 1960s, the South African-born lawyer Pillay has been the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights since 2008 – far less known than male colleagues. Pupils at Ismaning High School want to change that. As part of an art project, they attached larger-than-life portraits of 14 important women to a wall at the roundabout on Max-von-Eyth- and Oskar-Messter-Straße. Information about their life and work can be found at www.gymnasiumismaning.de/feminism-is-for-everybody/.
