Ismaning – 30 years of lowering the S-Bahn – district of Munich

When a CSU prime minister gets involved in correspondence with a community of citizens in a small community, that may mean something. If that Prime Minister also makes an offer to the citizens in order to meet their concerns and thus influences the plans of a state-owned company, one can safely call that successful citizen engagement. The result of the negotiations between Franz-Josef Strauss and a stubborn group of courageous people from the community of Ismaning can still be experienced today – at the entrance to the Ismaning S-Bahn station. Thanks to the “Citizens’ Association for S-Bahn Tunnels” this, along with Unterföhring, is the only underground station in the Munich S-Bahn network outside of the main route. This Monday, March 7th, marks the 30th anniversary of the inauguration of the tunnel station.
