There is no other way to interpret the final applause in the Isarphilharmonie, this is how people of the heart are celebrated. Rattle, for his part, of course loves the musicians, but also his Munich audience. So the 69-year-old throws the bouquet of flowers that was obligatory for him at the finale into the enthusiastic audience like a rock star.
