Horror accident at the Ironman in Hamburg: a motorcyclist drove into a cyclist there on Sunday morning. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
Tragic accident at the Ironman in Hamburg: There, on Sunday morning, the driver of an escort motorcycle collided head-on with a cyclist at around 8.45 a.m. during the race. The police operations manager confirmed to the ARD “Sportschau” that the motorcyclist had died at the scene of the accident.
The cyclist was seriously injured, but according to the current status not in mortal danger. The cameraman on the motorcycle was slightly injured and was taken to the hospital like the participant. First “bild.de” reported on the consequences of the accident.

The accident happened on a straight stretch on a dike. The collision occurred for unknown reasons. A little later, there were absurd scenes when participants carried their bicycles over the dyke to the scene of the accident. The triathlon initially continued.
Numerous rescue workers and a rescue helicopter are in action. ARD and NDR ended their live reporting after the accident. The route of the Ironman is now to be shortened. At the European Championships, Olympic champion Jan Frodeno also wanted to successfully end his professional career with his last triathlon race in Germany. For the pros, the race is not only about the European title, but also about qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Nice in September.
