Three men enter a post office – one of them is dead. What sounds like a macabre joke is said to have actually happened in Carlow, Ireland. Apparently, the two wanted to collect the senior’s pension – but he had to be present.

It must have been an absurd scene in the post office in the small Irish town of Carlow: three men entered the branch on Friday – one of them was dead. According to media reports, the two strangers had brought the body of an elderly person to the post office to collect his pension.

Three men go to the post office – one of them is dead

According to a report by the Irish Times, the macabre story began on Friday morning. A man entered the post office and applied for an elderly gentleman’s pension payment. When one of the employees pointed out to the applicant that the pensioner had to be present himself, the man initially left the branch – only to return a little later with an escort.

This time, the newspaper writes, there were three of them. Two of the men, including the one who had just left the post office, are said to have supported a third man, around 60 years old. Again they would have asked for the payment of the pension. One of those present was obviously not at all comfortable with the situation. When she alerted a postal worker, the suspects dropped the senior and fled, the Irish Times report said.

Shortly thereafter, police and rescue workers arrived. It quickly became clear that the man left on the ground was dead. According to the police, the deceased was a man in his late 60s who lived very close to the post office. Officials blocked his house as a potential crime scene.

Apparently the man died of natural causes

According to the Irish Times, the police initially confirmed that the unclear circumstances of death were the subject of the investigation and that an autopsy would be carried out. According to the Irish Examiner, examination of the body found no evidence of a violent death. A police spokesman did not want to comment on the exact autopsy results, but confirmed that the man died of natural causes.

The investigation now focused on whether the two fugitives were guilty of a crime. It is assumed that the deceased knew the suspects.
