Iranian television announces the arrest of three Mossad agents in Afghanistan

According to Iranian authorities, they “planned to launch kamikaze drone attacks” from Afghanistan against “targets in Iran.” State television announced on Sunday the arrest of three Iranians suspected of working for Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service.

“Three Mossad agents of Iranian nationality were arrested as part of a joint operation by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and the Taliban, in mountainous areas” between Iran and Afghanistan, state television said.

Iran-Taliban collaboration

State media did not provide information on the identity of the suspects or the date of their arrest, but said they “will soon be transferred” to Iran for “interrogation.”

Tehran has already announced on several occasions the arrest of agents suspected of working for the Israeli intelligence services, which it accuses of having sabotaged some of its nuclear sites.

Tension between the two countries has further increased since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip following the attack launched on October 7 by Hamas in Israel. Iran, which shares a border of more than 900 km with Afghanistan, does not officially recognize the Taliban, in power since 2021, but the two countries nevertheless maintain relations.
