iOS 15.2 is here with lots of new features and iMessage nude filters

Apple has released iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2 for download. The second major update for iOS 15 delivers announced functions, provides minor improvements and eliminates errors, as the manufacturer announced. The update can be downloaded via the integrated software update in the settings under General> Software update or downloaded and installed via iTunes or the macOS Finder. iOS 15.2 is up to around 5 GB in size, depending on the device.

“Apple Music Voice” is introduced with the new version of the operating system. The new subscription level for the music streaming service costs 5 euros per month and is largely limited to control via the Siri voice assistance system; there are no extended functions such as offline support or Dolby Atmos.

In the data protection settings, iOS and iPadOS 15.2 reveal in the new app data protection report which data and sensors apps access and to which servers they establish connections, Apple’s own apps are also listed. Newer iPhones show a repair history if certain components have been replaced. Users can also arrange the digital discount for their Apple ID.

The iPhone 13 Pro has a new button for macro photos and Apple’s TV app has its own tab for the films and series on offer in the iTunes store. In CarPlay, Apple Maps supports the new, expanded detailed view for cities, which is only available in a few North American cities – as well as in London.

Part of iOS 15.2 is a nude photo filter for iMessage or the “Messages” app. The function is part of Apple’s controversial new child protection functions, the introduction of which was postponed after the protests of numerous civil rights activists, data protectionists and users.

Parents have the option to activate the nude filter as part of family sharing on the devices of their underage children. For the time being, the function is only available in the USA. The operating system should then analyze images in the news app and display them blurred and with a warning message if it is suspected of being nude. This applies to both received image content and when sending your own nude photos. Children can decide to look at the pictures anyway or to send them to someone. Apple has canceled an originally planned automatic notification of parents.

iOS and iPadOS 15.2 include minor improvements to the Reminders, Notes, and Shares apps. Apple’s “Where is?” Service should now be able to locate iPhones for up to five hours that have already switched off due to an empty battery. Apple is also removing errors from Siri in conjunction with the VoiceOver user guide, as well as bugs in ProRAW, HomeKit and CarPlay. Exchange users should also see the calendar entries on the correct day again, according to the package insert. The updates should also remove security gaps, details are still pending. In addition to iOS 15.2, Apple also released watchOS 8.3 and tvOS 15.2 on Monday evening.
