Investments in Erlangen University – Bavaria

After allegations that the Free State is investing in a new university in Nuremberg, but neglecting the building stock of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), the state government has presented current and future construction and renovation measures at the largest Bavarian university outside of Munich. In total, there are “15 major construction projects that have been completed in recent years or where the excavators are currently rolling,” said Science Minister Bernd Sibler (CSU) in Erlangen. Since 2019, the Free State has “spent around one billion euros in parts or firmly planned” for other projects that have already been approved. This improves the study conditions of 20,000 FAU students, “half of the university”. So now the announcement of a new home in the field of education has been made.

In addition, planning funds for the Margrave Castle, the central representative building of the university, are planned for 2022. Their general renovation is thus within reach. This shows: “We stand by FAU and its further development,” said Sibler. The FAU shines “far beyond Erlangen and Bavaria,” said Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU). So the renovation of the Raspberry Palace, the new Audimax and lecture hall center of the Philosophical Faculty is pending, the financing is secured.
