Investigation after the death of a man on the sidelines of the riots, hit by a “probable” shooting of “flash-ball”

The Marseille prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation on Tuesday for “fatal blows with the use or threat of a weapon”. This information, revealed by the daily The Marseillaise and confirmed by BFM TV and The Parisianfollows the death of a 27-year-old man in Marseille, on the night of Saturday July 1 to Sunday July 2.

“The first elements of the investigation make it possible to retain as probable a death caused by a violent shock to the chest caused by the firing of a ‘flash-ball type’ projectile”, reports the prosecution, quoted by several media. The impact “resulted in cardiac arrest and therefore death in the near future”, it is specified.

The prosecution specifies, still according to The Marseillaise and BFM TV, that it is not yet possible to determine whether the victim took part in the urban violence in progress that night and following the death of young Nahel, killed by the shooting of a police officer.
