Interview with Thorsten Schorn, the new ESC commentator for the ARD media

For the first time, Thorsten Schorn comments on the ESC for ARD. A conversation about good parties, the difference between Uli Hoeneß and Peter Urban, and the political dimension of the big European show.

Whenever Germany has experienced a defeat at the ESC, and there have been many since Lena Meyer-Landrut’s victory in 2010, the leading NDR has changed something in its approach to the competition. The broadcaster only held on to one person for a quarter of a century: Peter Urban, the German commentator. But every era ends at some point, and so Thorsten Schorn, 48, will now comment on the ESC for ARD for the first time. Although he only seems to have a supporting role, it will largely depend on the radio and television presenter whether the Eurovision Song Contest remains a major TV event.
