He served under Strauss and was described by him as an “arrogant professor”: the long-time Bavarian Minister of Culture Hans Maier on nights of bombing in cellars, gender and immortality.
Hans Maier was born on June 18, 1931 in Freiburg im Breisgau, where he completed his habilitation after studying history, modern languages and social sciences at the local university. He ended up in Munich because he became a professor of political science at the university there. The 92-year-old is a member of the German Academy of Language and Poetry, the Bavarian Academies of Sciences and Fine Arts and a recipient of the Bavarian Order of Maximilian.
