Sex films, porn videos and live strips: online platforms with such offers have huge user numbers in the EU. That is why they will have to adhere to stricter requirements in the future.

Three sex and porn platforms have to be in the area from Sunday and Tuesday respectively EU adhere to stricter rules against illegal content. The Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos platforms must carry out risk assessments themselves, for example on how to deal with illegal content, as the EU Commission announced in Brussels.

The platforms must examine the content to determine whether it poses a risk of gender-based violence. It is also about ensuring the protection of minors and their mental health. The reports are then examined by the EU Commission. The requirements come into force on Sunday for Pornhub and Stripchat and will apply to XVideos from Tuesday.

The EU Commission had previously classified the three platforms as “very large online platforms” under the new Digital Services Act (DSA). As far as regulation is concerned, the companies are on the same level as Twitter, Facebook, Tiktok and several Google services.

The Digital Services Act (DSA) is intended, among other things, to ensure that platforms remove illegal content on their sites more quickly than before. In turn, it is made easier for users to report such content. Basically, large services have to follow more rules than small ones.
