The correctional court of Béziers (Hérault) on Wednesday sentenced a 31-year-old man to four years of imprisonment, for having attacked three supervisors of the Béziers penitentiary center, on April 2. He was detained there as part of an indictment for attempted murder, reports prosecutor Raphaël Balland.
According to the magistrate, the man rushed on one of the supervisors when the door of his cell was opened, during the distribution of meals. Two other supervisors, present at the time, intervened to help their colleague to subdue the individual.
All three were injured. In custody, the respondent admitted the facts, “without giving an explanation for his action, only stating that he had felt attacked by the supervisor”, continues the prosecutor. The man’s criminal record shows five convictions. He was, in court on Wednesday, in a state of recidivism, after being sentenced in 2019 for violence with a weapon.
