Injured knee, the Polish Milik withdraws for the Euro

Olympique de Marseille and Poland striker Arkadiusz Milik will not play the Euro. Injured in a knee, he was forced to withdraw, announced Monday the Polish federation.

The 27-year-old arrived injured at the training camp of his selection and his injury cannot be healed until the start of the competition which will take place from June 11 to July 11. Milik was hit in the knee on May 23 during the Marseille match against Metz counting for the last day of the French championship.

“As the player himself admitted, despite the rehabilitation undertaken, he does not feel 100% ready to participate with a full commitment to the Euro”, explains the Polish federation. Milik will not be replaced in the Polish group.

Poland, which will be led by Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, play their first Euro game on Monday June 14 against Slovakia. Paulo Sousa’s players will then face Spain on the 19th and Sweden on the 23rd in Group E.
