“Collective failure”, “defeat of the State”… On the right, as on the left, the departure of the principal of the Parisian high school Maurice Ravel arouses indignation and a certain bitterness. The official had an altercation with a student at the end of February because he asked her to remove her veil. As a result, he received death threats on social media. On March 26, “For safety reasons” depending on the establishment, the principal leaves office. The rectorate, for its part, mentions an early retirement of a few months, for personal convenience.
At the Ravel high school, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, most students are rather surprised, even stunned, by the news. “He no longer had a choice, it was much too dangerous for him,” concedes Zoé, a first grade student. In front of the establishment, a particular atmosphere dominates, everyone recounting what they saw or heard on social networks while police officers are stationed a few meters away.

There complaint for violence from the high school student against the principal was dismissed. The young girl, too, left the establishment. According to information from RTL, she left high school at the end of February when the affair broke out. She therefore stopped her studies and today works in a nursery school with her mother as a leader, while looking for a work-study program.
The young woman admits that she was already starting to lose interest in her BTS before the altercation with her principal and that this only hastened her departure. As for that of the head of the establishment, she says she is sorry for him and regrets the extent that this affair has taken. “It was better for him to leave if he didn’t feel safeI moved on to something else”, she assures. The former student maintains her version of the story and condemns the death threats against the principal.
