Inflation: rental cars are becoming even more expensive – economy

A problem rarely comes alone, and when you’re on vacation, you don’t need that at all. But during these summer holidays, according to a spokesman for the European Consumer Center (EVZ), it happens “again and again” that consumers are not given a car despite booking a rental car. One reason for this is that many flights are being canceled or delayed. Some holidaymakers then no longer make it to the rental station in time – and still have to pay for the car. The rental company cancels the booking because of “no-show”, because of not showing up at the agreed time, and lends the car to someone else. “Whoever is responsible for the delay, whether the traveler himself, the airline or a third party, is usually the same for rental car providers,” says the EVZ spokesman. “Usually the whole rent is withheld.”
