According to preliminary figures, inflation in Bavaria rose in April for the first time this year. At 2.5 percent compared to April 2023, it was 0.2 points above the March value, as the State Office for Statistics announced on Monday. Before that, it had fallen for three months in a row. Even after the current slight increase, the inflation rate is one of the lowest in recent years.
The authority found particularly strong price increases in the education sector at 9.7 percent, in restaurants and accommodation services at 5.8 percent, and in alcoholic beverages and tobacco products at 4.3 percent. For food and non-alcoholic beverages, however, it was below average at 1.4 percent. This area has often been a driver of inflation recently.
The biggest braker was once again the household energy sector, which recorded a decline of 4.5 percent. However, prices here are at a very high level after the sharp increases in recent years.
The prospects for the further development of inflation are mixed. On Monday, the Munich Ifo Institute reported a slight increase in price expectations based on a survey among companies and now expects that Germany-wide inflation will initially not decline any further in the coming months.
