“Indiana Jones” film disappoints: Hunters of lost revenue – culture

The fifth installment in the Indiana Jones film series has been eagerly awaited around the world, but sales after its first weekend have been disappointing. The film has so far grossed 60 million dollars in the USA, which is in the lower range of blockbuster expectations and, above all, significantly less than the fourth valley of the saga – “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” managed 100 million at the start in 2008 Dollar. For a film estimated to have cost up to $400 million to produce and market, that’s a worrying sign.

The worldwide results are no reason for joy for Disney with 130 million dollars so far. Although the film ended up number one in the charts in Germany and many other countries, the number of German tickets with 330,000 viewers so far (source: Blickpunkt:Film) also lags behind its predecessor – part four managed the million viewers in Germany in the first week , “Wheel of Destiny” is unlikely to succeed in that. Many critics, including the Süddeutsche Zeitung, praised the film as a successful nostalgic spectacle, and both the 80-year-old Harrison Ford and his British partner Phoebe Waller-Bridge raved about the shooting.

The disappointment with “Indy” continues a series of flops that have given Hollywood pause for the last few weeks. The superhero film “The Flash” and the Pixar animation spectacle “Elemental” also posted disappointing numbers. Now all eyes are on Tom Cruise and his legendary ability to make things right as a hit producer – his ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’ starts next week.
