In the middle of Nuremberg: Take that, picture newspaper! – Bavaria

A premiere at a Nuremberg theater in 2011? One could still be sure that at least four reviews would appear in local print publications. One in the city magazine blare, plastic and cheeky. Then in Nuremberg AZ, in the most ambitious city feuilleton. And of course well-founded in the Nuremberg News (NN) – and her smaller sister, published by the same publisher Nuremberg newspaper (NZ).

One of the two was always suspected of looking at the world from a “left” perspective (NN). The other (NZ) came – allegedly – from the other direction. In reality, at least in the feuilleton, it sometimes worked the other way around. And that’s also why the juxtaposition of articles was so enlightening. Four different perspectives, so in the end you knew one thing above all: You will have to go there to know whether it is good or boring.

The AZ was discontinued in 2012, the editor-in-chief thanked for “outstanding work”. Falling edition. After that he was too blare History, supposedly no longer profitable. Remained NN and NZ. But since a leaf reform, they only deliver one criticism for both Leaves. In less than a dozen years, four local reviews became: exactly one. For friends of plurality, this is frightening.

The Picture? Also has an office in Nuremberg. And to stay with the example: there, too, a “cultural piece” was published from time to time. Not a classic criticism, more of a lengthy reference. Malice is completely out of place here: in the cultural institutions in Bavaria, there is a lack of audiences without a university degree.

What you say, at the beginning of the end

And now? Unless all the signs are deceptive, this picture office will have to close. It is to be heard that reports from Franconia will continue. But different. What you say, at the beginning of the end.

What could brighten the mood in the face of such a journalistic cut-throat? Possibly the attitude of the – attention – Nuremberg FDP. She scolds in writing: “Obviously cost reductions are once again the only idea that German managers are concerned about.” And: “More entrepreneurial daring and a diverse, lively press, those would be goals, but unfortunately not everyone is born for them.” Take that, Bild newspaper!
