Who fulfills many functions and has to satisfy many needs? If you go by the dictionary, as a parent you are on the move in a multifunctional way. However, there is one need that is difficult to meet at the moment: finding the right wardrobe. A lot can go wrong, especially this fall.
It is sometimes so bitterly cold in the morning that you need a scarf and gloves, otherwise the child will be shivering on the way to school. The multiple quilted down jacket was actually intended for the dead of winter, which is now hastily dug out of the basement and made presentable. Also, the simple cotton beanie is no longer enough for the head, it has to be the thick woolen hat with the bobble on it. Before anyone gets the idea of asking for the snow suit in September, it is quickly hidden in the furthest corner of the closet.
At noon the sun managed to struggle out from behind the clouds; it’s actually really warm. At the latest when the first passers-by walk past in the street in a T-shirt, the first pangs of conscience appear. Do the children have enough to drink with them to be able to compensate for the sauna temperatures in their deep winter down clothes? Not infrequently, the whining after school and kindergarten is over: “I’m sweating so much,” they say, or “Why do I always have to put on this stupid jacket?” Unfortunately, even school satchels or kindergarten backpacks are not big enough to adequately stow away the fluffy thermo pieces, so they are dragged across the floor, strapped to the backpack or simply lost on the way. And at home you have to find good arguments why a bikini is not the right clothing for this time of year.
No, you just can’t get it right these days. Maybe one way would be to do it like Joe Tribbiani from the cult sitcom Friends: To annoy his friend and roommate Chandler, Joe wears his entire wardrobe – briefs, shirt, trousers, tie – one on top of the other. It’s called the onion technique. Or you put on a chic jacket where you can either remove the sleeves. Or cut out the inner lining. Easily transportable, reusable. Multifunctional stop.
