In the Central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, on the other hand, farmers, together with the local CSU district administrator Manuel Westphal, who has close family ties to agriculture, are mobilizing so decisively against a high-profile nature conservation project that after three years of preparatory work it is in danger of failing at the home stretch . At the State Association for Bird Protection (LBV) they are pissed off. “Westphal has been delaying the project for months with incomprehensible arguments,” complains LBV boss Norbert Schäffer. “It offers the region, nature and also the farmers unique perspectives.”
