Two days after having delivered solutions to try to respond to the demands of angry farmers, Gabriel Attal admitted not having “not answered” has “all the discomfort”, but claimed to be “resolved to move forward quickly.” He also reiterated that it was necessary to strengthen controls for better remuneration of farmers governed by the Egalim laws, but also “get out of standards, obstacles, procedures that have piled up in recent decades”

Earlier in the morning and on the eve of a “siege of the capital” promised by farmers from the FNSEA and the Young Farmers (JA) of the greater Paris basin, the Prime Minister went to a cattle farm in Parçay-Meslay (Indre-et-Loire). He said he was considering measures “additional”, at national and European levels, to protect farmers against unfair competition from other countries which are not subject to the same regulatory constraints. “I want us to clarify things and see what additional measures we can take on these stories of unfair competition,” said Gabriel Attal. And throw: “It’s not normal that you are prevented from using certain products,” while “neighboring countries, Italy or others” can use it.

In an attempt to quell the protest, the Prime Minister, who will deliver his general policy declaration to MPs on Tuesday, unveiled emergency measures on Friday.

He acceded to some of the protesters’ most pressing demands, including the abandonment of the increase in the tax on non-road diesel (GNR), inflated compensation for breeders affected by MHE cattle disease, less administrative constraints and heavy sanctions against three agri-food manufacturers not respecting the Egalim laws on prices.
