In-ear headphones with ANC for €230

With the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Samsung has introduced new in-ear headphones with active noise cancellation, improved sound and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. At a price of 230 euros, they should hold their own against the somewhat higher-priced competition à la AirPods Pro & Co. What do the “plugs” have to offer?

Compared to the Galaxy Buds Pro, i.e. the first generation, the new Buds 2 Pro are around about 15% shrunk. With a weight of 5.5 grams, the in-ear headphones are positioned between the Galaxy Buds 2 at just under 5.1 grams and the Galaxy Buds Pro at around 6.3 grams. The shape should sit particularly comfortably in the ear, but also ensure a good grip during sporting activities. These are the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro protected against water according to IPX7 (1 meter of fresh water, max. 30 minutes).

Better sound quality with own codec

Inside, Samsung uses a 2-way sound system with a tweeter and woofer. Together with the Samsung Seamless Codec HiFi, which is only compatible in combination with a Samsung device from One UI 4.0, you can 24-bit sound enjoy. However, the corresponding app must support this quality. Alternatively use the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro the AAC or SBC as a codec, the aptX (HD), which is otherwise popular with Android smartphones, is not included.

This is joined by an improved one active noise cancellation including ambient mode. The Buds 2 Pro use three microphones per “plug”: 2x outside, 1x inside. During phone calls, your voice should be emphasized and unwanted ambient noise should be effectively filtered out. In addition, the in-ear headphones offer a virtual 360 degree sound, which should be particularly interesting for movies or games. However, a Samsung device (One UI 3.1 or higher) is also required here.

By the way, the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are connected via Bluetooth 5.3. In this case, however, the new standard, which is intended to ensure greater efficiency, does not need the LE Audio (Low Energy) extension and the LC3 codec – at least Samsung does not name these features. However, a automatic device change This is possible without having to manually connect the buds in the Bluetooth settings – which, again, is only possible with Galaxy devices.

Up to 29 hours of battery life

According to Samsung, you can with deactivated ANC listen to music for up to 8 hours, together with the charging case, a maximum of 29 hours is possible. As soon as you use noise cancellation, the battery life is reduced to 5 hours on one charge, up to a maximum of 18 hours. The case is charged either via USB-C or wireless charging.

You can get the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro now for 229 euros Pre-order MSRP in Graphite, White, Bora Purple. As well as them new foldable smartphones or the Galaxy Watch 5 (Pro) will then become the in-ear headphones from August 26th delivered.
