Uwe Schmidt and his team from Drug Aid Swabia regularly remove clients from their list because they are dead. On the one hand there are the “silent drug deaths”, as the managing director and social worker calls them, “the body doesn’t go along with such a lifestyle for long”. People who are addicted to heroin, amphetamines or opiates die at some point, too early or much too early, ultimately from heart failure, liver cirrhosis, lung damage, and also from the consequences of infectious diseases.
