In addition to the CRS, Gérald Darmanin announces the arrival of the Raid in the Pissevin district

Visiting Finistère on Thursday, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced that the Raid would also be deployed in Pissevin, in Nîmes (Gard). In this working-class district, plagued by drug trafficking and settling of accounts, an 18-year-old young man died on Thursday morning, shot by bullets. Monday evening, a 10-year-old child succumbed to his injuries, collateral victim of a shooting.

The Minister of the Interior had announced on Tuesday that the CRS 8 would be dispatched to the district. Gérald Darmanin clarified that in Nîmes, there had been “40% more police officers for four years” and that “15 investigators from the judicial police” arrived in September.

“What will happen once these forces are gone? »

The mayor of Nîmes, Jean-Paul Fournier (LR) had welcomed the arrival of the CRS 8 on Tuesday, but the elected official was worried “about the ephemeral nature of the presence of a CRS company. What will happen once these forces are gone? (…) The temporary reinforcements that came this summer have, alas, not made it possible to stem this violence, nor to prevent new innocent victims”. The mayor asked for “concrete and lasting solutions to this situation. The permanent assignment of a CRS company remains a priority”.

Gérald Darmanin is expected in Nîmes on Friday. This Thursday, the Minister of the Interior announced that the police had already made arrests.
