When Mario Götze’s move to Munich became known, ex-BVB coach Jürgen Klopp reacted offended. This is what the ex-advisor to the Rio world champion describes.

Brought in the spring of 2013 the announced move from Mario Götze to Bayern the world of Borussia Dortmund is shaking. Now Götze’s advisor Volker Struth remembers the turbulent days and how particularly the then BVB coach Jürgen Klopp reacted. In his book “Meine Spielzüge”, which was published in advance in the image has appeared, writes Struth how much Götze wanted a move to Bayern – because he was able to work there with Pep Guardiola.

“I would like to experience that once, to play for Guardiola. That doesn’t mean that anything bothers me in Dortmund. I just know that this is an opportunity that will never come back and that I want to use,” Götze is quoted in the book.

At that time, the announcement triggered a moderate earthquake at BVB, especially the conversation with the then successful coach Jürgen Klopp was definitely spicy for Götze. Klopp is said to have been personally offended, after all, the BVB coach had only paved the way for Götze’s career.

Klopp’s reply was therefore quite sarcastic. “Got it, Mario, I’m not a Guardiola. It’s Guardiola, he also plays this Tikitaka”, Klopp is quoted in Struth’s book.

Struth with “stomach ache” when Götze changed from BVB to Bayern

The consultant himself would have had “big stomach aches” at the time of the change. Struth was not sure whether Götze would prevail under Guardiola at Bayern. Ultimately, Götze made 114 competitive games for Munich, scoring 36 goals and preparing 24.

Despite the decent numbers, Götze’s time in Munich was always somehow incomplete, and the player was injured more often. Hence the later return to Dortmund. Götze is now playing for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie.
