I recently blogged about the ILife Shinebot W400 tested. In the comments, some readers referred to the higher-quality Shinebot W455. In contrast to the W400, this also has a companion app and can also navigate smarter thanks to the camera. However, suction power and water capacity have remained the same, as has the general design. I’ll test whether the Shinebot W455 could be a worthwhile purchase for you.
The ILife Shinebot W455 basically cleans in the same four steps as the W400: 1. It moistens the floor with fresh water. 2. He scrubs over it with his roller. 3. It sucks up the dirty water. 4. He removes any residue with his scraper. But there is also a companion app, ILifeHome, available. This allows you to define cleaning areas, create plans and also regulate the suction power.

The Shinebot W455 also has three cleaning modes: In path mode, it tries to clean the room as efficiently as possible. Then there’s Area mode, where it covers an area up to 25 x 25 square meters, and Spot mode, for cleaning stubborn stains in a spiral pattern. The price in this case is currently 230 euros at z. B. The ILife Shinebot W455 also comes with a remote control if you don’t feel like connecting it to the app. It may look a bit retro, but it can definitely be sufficient for such a wiping robot. Due to the increased battery capacity, the W455 gets by a little longer with one charge than the W400. Otherwise you will discover many similarities here, such as the identical operating volume and the design.
Here, too, you can basically split the robot in two and then you have the rather large tank unit and the actual machine in front of you. If you don’t like operation via the app or the remote control, you can also start the cleaning process or change the mode using two buttons on the Shinebot W455. Of course, you only get a room map via the app.
Like the W400, this robot drives through your booth at a speed of 8 m per minute and can be operated via a remote control or the buttons on the top. In addition to the W455 and the aforementioned remote control including 2 AAA batteries, the scope of delivery also includes a charging station with a suitable power supply unit, a cleaning brush and a user manual. The roller and filter can each be removed and replaced or washed out.
Again, I mention it: The ILife Shinebot W455 is designed to be cleaned with water without detergent. If you use cleaning agents, they can leave residues and damage the device. Overall, I rate the workmanship as very similar to that of the W400: everything fits so far at the advertised price. The wiping robot is not a designer piece, but the water tanks can be easily removed, filled or emptied and sit securely. The case looks stable.
practice test
Before cleaning, you select a mode using the button on the vacuum cleaner, the remote or the app: the path mode sends the robot straight ahead. If it hits a wall, it turns 90° and continues cleaning. So this makes sense if you want to clean a room. The remaining modes are more useful for isolated areas or spots. Compared to the rather “stupid” Shinebot W400, the W455 navigates a bit more cleverly and sometimes feels its way through a gap that made the W400 turn around. Otherwise, I quickly experienced déjà vu.
The ILife Shinebot W455 also rattles over carpets unless they are of a certain height. Smaller rugs don’t bother the mopping robot – but maybe you if it leaves them wet. So if the little helper is to go on patrol, it’s better to put all the carpets aside beforehand. It is also the case here that you have to help after the tour at the latest. The W455 does not automatically return to the charging station. So you have to carry it back.
Lending a hand is anyway announced, because after each cleaning you should clean the removable water tanks and the brush roller of the robot. Otherwise, unpleasant odors will develop very quickly. If I had complained about the Shinebot W400 that it was generally too generous with the fresh water, this point of criticism no longer applies. You can regulate the amount of water in the app.
The wiping results are otherwise identical to the W400. This means that the ILife Shinebot W455 clearly outperforms vacuum robots that only pull a wet rag with them. But I look e.g. B. on the Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI with its vibrating mop pads, I’m not so sure anymore. However, that model also plays in a different price range. Especially since the Shinebot W455 cleans more hygienically than conventional vacuum robots thanks to its two separate water tanks.
However, since you cannot use a cleaning agent, there are disadvantages. Sugary orange juice leaves the floor sticky even after cleaning by the ILife Shinebot W455. Here I would continue to have one Tineco wet vacuum cleaner prefer where you can use a cleaning solution and get better results. But you have to do it manually and pay significantly more.
Conclusion
The ILife Shinebot W455 offers some added value compared to the cheaper W400: App control, visual navigation and features related to both aspects such as map creation. The workmanship is very similar to the W400 and the wiping results are good – but they don’t reach Tineco wet vacuum cleaners or even Jimmy approach. Especially since you have to heave the robot onto the charging station after each cleaning process or you have to clean the water tanks.
Nevertheless, the Shinebot W455 wipes much better than most vacuum robots and even gets rid of coffee stains. Personally, however, I stick to the fact that the combination of a wet vacuum cleaner and a vacuum robot is the more efficient way for me – albeit the more expensive one. That is always a question of what you want to invest in order to keep your household clean as easily as possible.
I definitely prefer the W455 to the Shinebot W400.
