Ile-de-France residents invited to choose the design of the future RER B trains

A rather square or rounded locomotive? An imitation wood or terrazzo floor? White or metallic grab bars? A public consultation has been launched since Thursday by Ile-de-France Mobilités to choose the face and interior design of the RER B which will equip the line from the end of 2025.

Voters can notably vote on the exterior design of the train or on the layout of the trainsets. They are offered three options each time. The votes are taken online until July 1.

2.5 billion euros of investment

The first sketches were presented at the end of June to user associations. The design popular with Ile-de-France residents will be presented at the start of the school year. 146 “new generation” trainsets – larger, air-conditioned, equipped with video protection from USB sockets – will replace those currently in circulation.

With 345 seats, they will be able to accommodate 20% more passengers compared to current trains. Total cost of the operation: 2.5 billion euros.
