Ian McEwan on George Orwell – Culture

It’s a neat idea to bring two famous English writers from widely separated eras into a kind of imaginary conversation. One, George Orwell (1903-1950), author of the world-famous political fable “Animal Farm” (1944) and the dystopian bestseller “1984” (1948), was very politically committed, a convinced socialist, and a fighter in the Spanish Civil War, and beyond but lucid literary critic and author. Ian McEwan, born in 1948, is a contemporary writer who has been showered with prizes and awards.
