After the earthquake in Taiwan, hundreds of tourists and locals were rescued from a national park. They had to stay there for several days before the evacuation could begin.
Rescue workers have rescued hundreds of people trapped in dangerous places after the worst earthquake in Taiwan in almost 25 years. More than 400 tourists and locals still stuck in Taroko National Park were transported to safe locations by helicopter and vehicles. The authorities announced this. There were also several Germans among the tourists. Roads were damaged and landslides occurred in the east coast area.
According to the latest information from the fire department, 38 people stayed behind in four locations to carry out further tasks. For example, they were employees of a hotel where many survivors had stayed. Others remained at a power plant, a Catholic church and a recreation center.
After the severe earthquake in Taiwan, numerous rescue workers were deployed in Taroko National Park to search for trapped people.
At least 13 dead – Rescue work go on
Officials said at least 13 people died in Wednesday’s earthquake, which local authorities said had a magnitude of 7.2. More than 1,140 people were injured. Six people are still being searched. A rescue team from Turkey is taking part in the search, which is also using drones.
