Hugo Clément’s media condemned for “non-respect of the presumption of innocence”

Found guilty too soon. The Vakita media of journalist Hugo Clément was condemned for “undermining the presumption of innocence” of the young man accused of the assassination of Shaïna. This 15-year-old girl was burned alive in Creil, Oise, in 2019.

The Paris court ordered the news site to publish this sentence on its home page for two weeks, and to pay the symbolic euro requested by the young man. The latter, 17 years old at the time of the events, must be tried from June 5 before the assize court for minors of Oise, in Beauvais, for the assassination of the young woman.

Presented “without precaution” as the “culprit”

On October 25, 2019, Shaïna, a few days pregnant, had been stabbed several times and then burned alive, in a shed in her city of Creil. The young man, who had a relationship with her, was quickly indicted. The only defendant in this case, he claims his innocence.

The Vakita media had published a documentary series – since modified – on this case, which presented him “without precaution” as the “guilty”, estimated the court in its decision, rendered on Wednesday. Also questioned were posts promoting the series on social networks – talking about the story of “Shaïna, 15, burned alive by her boyfriend”. These posts have since been deleted.

Lawyer for the minor in this case, Me Antoine Ory was satisfied with the court’s decision on “an investigation which was devoid of any distance, and proceeded by categorical assertions on the guilt of the accused”.
