The actor Howard Hesseman is dead. The star of series and films such as “WKRP in Cincinnati” and “Flight of the Navigator” was 81.

US star Howard Hesseman is dead. The film and series actor died among other things, according to “Variety” at the age of 81. Hesseman’s longtime spokesman Robbie Kass confirmed: “Howard was a breakthrough talent and a lifelong friend whose kindness and generosity was matched only by his influence on and admiration of generations of actors.”

Hesseman began his long career in 1968 with the film “Petulia” with Richard Chamberlain (87), followed by other films such as “Mel Brooks’ Last Madness” (1976), “The Flight of the Navigator” (1986) or “Fear and Loneliness” (1986). He was also seen in more recent productions, for example in “About Schmidt” alongside Jack Nicholson (84) or “Halloween II” from 2009.

Decades on TV

However, he celebrated his greatest successes on TV. He appeared in 90 episodes of the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati from 1978 to 1982 and 92 episodes of Big Class from 1986 to 1990. Again and again he appeared in individual episodes of famous series, including “Dr. House”, “That 70’s Show” and “Boston Legal”. He last appeared on television in 2017 as a guest star in two episodes of the sitcom Fresh Off the Boat.
