The security situation in Kabul was already catastrophic. Nevertheless, Austria’s Chancellor Nehammer apparently asked the then German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer in the summer of 2021 to organize a repatriation flight. And he gave in.

The six Afghans were already on the plane in Munich, they were to be deported to Kabul. At around 9 p.m., however, the news came: the security situation was unclear after the attack, armed groups were in the streets of Kabul, civilian air traffic was suspended. Forty minutes later, at around 9:40 p.m., the men were taken out of the plane by federal police officers. deportation aborted. It was the end of a failed German-Austrian special operation.
