How Karin Viard and Franck Dubosc, friends in life, play a broken couple

What a beautiful couple and what a superb duo! Karin Viard and Franck Dubosc are accomplices in New start by Philippe Lefebvre as in real life. And yet, they portray a broken couple in this comedy where a woman leaves her husband after thirty years of marriage. “They suffer from empty nest syndrome which sometimes tears apart households after the departure of their children,” explains Karin Viard to 20 minutes. I liked that, in this film, it was the woman who dreams of new horizons and who leaves. »

This fifty-year-old suddenly deciding to live free leaves her husband completely devastated. “It’s a resolutely modern film,” confides Franck Dubosc, and also the opportunity to shoot for the first time with Karin. No one had thought of bringing us together in this current context even though we have known it for forty years. » Both were students at the Rouen conservatory in the 1980s and were very friends then.

A subtle pas de deux

“We were friends at the time,” remembers Karin Viard, “then our professional paths separated. There was something refreshing about finding ourselves like this. » Each of their tête-à-tête offers the opportunity for tasty and touching exchanges in which we feel their friendship. If they had already been together on the poster for Visitors 3, the duo finds here something to dance a much more subtle pas de deux. “Our characters are anchored in today’s world, insists Franck Dubosc, even if there was something pleasant in finding the young people that we were when we played opposite each other. »

Franck Dubosc has rarely been as moving as in this role of a husband in love with his wife to the point of suffocating her and making her want to look elsewhere. Karin Viard gets into tune as a mother suddenly deciding to break out of the mold in which her life has confined her for too long. “Our characters are in tune with the times,” believes the actress. They rediscover the need to seduce with all that this implies of anxiety and questioning. »

New start draws with great sensitivity from the combined talents of its performers. We hope to see the Karin Viard-Franck Dubosc duo again on screen in a comedy as tender as this one.
