How Jonathan Cohen and Vincent Macaigne found themselves glued to each other

Two political rivals who find themselves “in the glue”. This is the purpose, literally and figuratively, ofAt the same time by Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern, a scathing comedy that puts the expression “to join a party” in a very particular light. An uninhibited right-wing mayor (Jonathan Cohen, hilarious as an unscrupulous shark) and a cowardly left-wing city councilor (Vincent Macaigne, writhing as a bobo caricature) find themselves glued to each other, unable to unstick themselves, in embarrassing circumstances that we will let you discover.

“The idea came to us from an anarchist friend who glued the locks of banks, explains Gustave Kerven to 20 minutes. To see if declining it with political rivals could hold over the duration of a feature film…” Well yes! The joyfully schoolboy spirit of the duo sparkles throughout a fantasy where François Damiens, Yolande Moreau, India Hair, Lætitia Dosch, Anna Mouglalis, Jehnny Beth and Doully (the presenter in Groland) make appearances.

Glue men

“Of course, the concept is exploited in a wacky way in our film, but it is really possible to stick people, confides Benoît Delépine to 20 minutes. We were told of a news item in Guyana where a jealous husband forced his wife to coat her hand with glue and then to grab her lover’s balls. The pair of mayors are also tied in a very embarrassing position, forcing them to seek a solution to separate without undermining their dignity or their physical integrity. Enough to offer a delirious selection of burlesque moments and a feminist message where men take it for their number from militant followers of seccotine.

“Benoît and I have a past as street clowns,” says Gustave Kervern. It was very useful for us to develop the harness that tied our actors to adopt this ridiculous gait. “Despite the discomfort of their position, Vincent Macaigne and Jonathan Cohen took the fold to the point that it was soon enough to intertwine their two belts to make them advance at the same step. “They were so invested that Jonathan asked to have a hair from Gustave’s buttocks glued to his anatomy to have the feeling of touching his partner’s body,” says Benoît Delépine.

The good mood that emanates from Eat the same time is very salutary in this election period. “We wanted to talk about politics in a festive way and focus on women and their struggles,” says Gustave Kervern. We vote enthusiastically for their bratty humor.
