How heat pumps cope with legionella – knowledge

Bacteria of the Legionella genus have a property that makes them almost likeable: they love warm water. That’s why they prefer to stay in steamy showers, tubs and whirlpools, as well as in their inlets and in the buildings’ drinking water tanks. However, anyone who shares their bath water with Legionella does not live without danger. If you inhale the bacteria with the water vapor, in the worst case scenario they can cause pneumonia. However, legionella don’t like it too hot: when the water temperature reaches 55 degrees, they no longer multiply; above 60 degrees, they die.
