How German cultural institutions react to the Hamas murders – Culture

There is something spooky about the routine with which the cultural sector simply carries on, apparently unaffected by the terrible situation in Israel. One could say: What else should theaters, museums, clubs and opera houses do? Symbolic gestures on German theater stages help no one in Israel. But the shoulder-shrugging matter-of-factness with which the show continues as if nothing had happened seems hard-hearted. The supposedly political club scene with its sympathies for the anti-Israel boycott movement BDS is embarrassing itself across the board: the party must go on, even if dancing ravers in Israel are murdered, raped and kidnapped. Because things are still getting worse, the Berlin rapper Nura posted a selfie with the “Free Palestine” slogan shortly after the murderous Hamas attack. The fact that the “Free Palestine” kitsch that day is pure anti-Semitism doesn’t seem to bother them. So much for moral and political sanity in the subculture.
