Recently, TikTok users may have had the strange surprise of seeing Marc Dutroux land in their “for you”. Several videos are currently circulating on the social network, showing the “Monster of Marcinelle” strolling in the courtyard of the prison of Nivelles, where he has languished for more than 24 years. We see him being insulted by the other prisoners, slipping, stretching, but also confiding in one of them through the bars of his cell. Bruno Dayez, the lawyer for Belgium’s most famous prisoner, has agreed to answer 20 minutes.
Despite all the security measures, the Belgian prison services are unable to prevent the circulation of mobile phones in the prisons. A flaw that allowed two inmates of the Nivelles prison, south of Brussels, to film Marc Dutroux several times during his walks. In the two videos posted online a few days ago, we first see Dutroux very angry, going around in circles in the yard under a rain of insults and projectiles. In the second, he speaks calmly to the prisoner who films him from his window. “These films are old, at least a year and a half. I had alerted the prison management, which had taken sanctions against the two prisoners who had filmed my client in defiance of his image rights, one of the only rights he has left, ”recalls Bruno Dayez, the lawyer by Marc Dutroux.
“Dutroux is not crazy”
And when the most famous detainee in Belgium learned of the existence of these videos, it made him neither hot nor cold: “The fact of having been persecuted by some of his co-religionists does not move him more than that”, assures the lawyer. Placed in solitary confinement since the beginning of his incarceration, justice considering that the convict is in danger in his prison, Marc Dutroux has made up his mind: “We considered that it was easier to keep him in prison. strict isolation, deplores his defender. Over time, he got used to this situation of loneliness and doesn’t want to get out of it. “Nevertheless, when the opportunity is given to him to pour out, the “monster of Marcinelle”, does not let it pass. And the tenor of his remarks may seem surprising.
“It’s not being in jail that’s the worst, it’s wearing the hat,” says Marc Dutroux to the prisoner who films him. “I am at the same time my defender, the defender of my kids, of my wife and of all those who died and were said to be me when in reality, the assassins are still in the wild” , he continues. Allegations to exonerate oneself from the detainees, from public opinion? Probably not, if only because he didn’t know he was being filmed. For master Dayez, the explanation is elsewhere: “Dutroux is not crazy, he has no psychiatric pathology. He just pays dearly for the situation in which he has been put and has no other interlocutor than himself. Which means that he is obsessively riveted on the facts for which he was convicted and which he claims not to have committed. »
And the certainty that Marc Dutroux has of having been a scapegoat, at least for some of the horrors attributed to him, helps to keep him in prison. “In the end, what he claims to be innocent of has had little impact on his conviction? On the other hand, it distances him from the repentance that justice demands of the condemned. Dutroux is his own enemy,” said the lawyer. A recurring discourse, a line of conduct that prevents any possibility of release. That, and the systematic veto of psychiatrists who regularly submit reports concluding that Marc Dutroux is persistently dangerous. The sixty-year-old prisoner is therefore not about to join a monastery, cut off from the world, to grow vegetables there, as he put forward the idea to Bruno Dayez.
