In Houston, Texas, police found the body of an eight-year-old boy who was in an apartment with his siblings who were left behind. The children’s mother’s friend has now been charged with murder.

After the remains of an eight-year-old and his three living siblings were found in an apartment in Houston, the children’s mother’s friend was charged with murder. Earlier, one of the siblings, a 15-year-old, called the police and said his brother had been dead for a year and his body was in the room next to his, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote on Twitter.

The 35-year-old mother of the children has now been charged, among other things, with neglecting a child and misappropriating evidence. Her 31-year-old boyfriend was charged with the murder of her son, who was eight at the time of his death in 2020, the sheriff said. Authorities believe the couple have not lived in the house for several months.

In addition to the body, the deceased’s three siblings, the 15-year-old and two under 10-year-olds, were found alone at home on Sunday. The two younger siblings “looked malnourished and showed signs of physical injury,” says Gonzalez. All three children were taken to the hospital.

“Never heard of such a scenario”

Authorities were able to track down the children’s mother and boyfriend late on Sunday evening. After being questioned, the couple were initially released. Both have now been arrested. The investigation continues.

At a press conference on Sunday, the sheriff spoke of an “appalling situation,” according to ABC News. “I’ve been in this business for a very long time and I’ve never heard of a scenario like this,” he said.
